1st Timothy, 2:5 “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man, Jesus Christ.”
I love the Father’s foreknowledge in this passage… He knows the human tendency to over complicate things and therefore, in His wisdom, He makes the plan of redemption very simple. One God. One Mediator. One Messiah. One way to heaven.
Knowing our hearts, He left nothing to us except for one choice. Salvation is entirely His work! He paid the debt, His Spirit draws us, He is good to us and it is His kindness draws us to repentance.
He did not intend for ritual, or a complicated list of requirements. He draws us simply by His grace.
I remember a couple years ago, I had to make a trip to the store to pick up some groceries I needed around the house. I left the house with a list of items in mind, about five items or so. When I entered the store I began to look for the first item, a pound of sugar. I soon found myself wondering if I like regular or semi-sweet chocolate chips. This was not an item on my list, but I had forgotten what was on it and had become distracted with other items. I returned home incomplete, only having a few items off my list.
This is exactly why God only puts one item on our list. He knows that we often get caught up in the things we don’t need. We will invest in things that we may have heard people talk about, or variations of the thing we are looking for. In His grace and mercy, He has made it simple. One God. One Mediator. The Man, Jesus Christ.
Keep it simple friends, keep it all about Jesus.
